fold house
Fold House is a compact 70m² transportable home that explores how a strong architectural idea can elevate a modest footprint. Designed in collaboration with Elevate Homes, the project responds to a client brief for a refined, low-maintenance dwelling suited to a semi-rural setting near Cambridge.
The design is defined by a folded roof form that wraps down to create a continuous outer shell. This simple form gives the building a clear, sculptural presence while also creating a sheltered outdoor living area that extends the usable living space for year-round use.
Within this outer frame, a warm material palette introduces contrast and tactility. Vertical timber lining defines the covered deck and entry, softening the overall expression and creating a more intimate threshold. The restrained exterior palette has been selected to sit comfortably within a rural landscape and perform well over time.
Careful planning ensures the home feels open and connected despite its size. The main living space opens directly to the covered deck through large sliding joinery, allowing indoor and outdoor living to flow together.
Intended for a Cambridge site, the design responds to its surroundings through both form and material selection, creating a home that is simple, robust and quietly expressive.
